Eustachius (first name)
Eustachius is a male name .
Origin and meaning
Eustachius is a Latin derivation of the Greek name Eustathios (Εὐστάθιος) after St. Eustathios . The name only appears in the Meissnian region in the early 16th century, probably in the course of the formation of Greek names by humanists. Older Greek or Latin bearers of the name are not known.
The accepted Greek form of the name would be Eustachios (Ευστάχιος) from eu (ευ) good and stachys (σταχυς), ear , which is not historically proven.
distribution
The name is common in England as Eustace in reference to St. Eustachius , the patron saint of hunters. It is also typical in southern Italy, especially Puglia , Basilicata and Calabria .
