Eutychianus (from Greek Eutychianos = "the happy one", Eutychian for short ; † December 7, 283 ) was bishop of Rome from 275 to 283 . His epitaph was discovered in the Catacomb of Calixtus in Rome . Eutychian's Memorial Day is December 7th.

Little is known about the life and work of Eutychian, even the dates of his term in office are unsecured. According to the Liber Pontificalis , he officiated for 8 years and 11 months, from January 4, 275 to December 7, 283. The church historian Eusebius of Caesarea reports, however, that Eutychian was bishop of Rome for only 10 months.

According to legend, he allowed grapes and beans to be blessed on the altar and buried 324 martyrs with his own hands. Some historians question this tradition, since no major persecutions are known from the Eutychian period and the blessing of the crops is generally attributed to a later period.
