  • Imperial crisis of the 3rd century : The Roman emperor Carus leads a successful campaign against the Persian Sassanid Empire . Shah Bahram II cannot hold back the Romans as he is himself involved in a civil war against his brother Hormizd. The Persian capital Seleukia-Ctesiphon is also conquered by the emperor.
  • August 29 : Emperor Carus is found dead in his tent after a storm. The exact circumstances of his death are unclear. However, a natural cause of death is suspected.
  • Carus' son Carinus takes over the rule of the Roman Empire. His brother Numerian takes over the east of the empire and the army, which is deep in the Sassanid Empire, as co-regent.
