- The Roman Emperor Maximian , under the leadership of Diocletian, subjugates the Alemannic King Gennobaudes. He swears allegiance to the Roman emperor as part of a foedus .
- Diocletian and Shah Bahram II of the Sassanid Empire sign a peace treaty. Trdat III. is installed as King of Armenia .
- September: The first indiction begins as part of Diocletian's reforms . This system of multi-year cycles is used by the Reich Chamber of Commerce up to 1806 .
