Eva-Karin Maria Westin , married Eva-Karin Sjömäling , (born June 24, 1972 in Umeå ) is a former Swedish biathlete .
Eva-Karin Westin lived and trained in Sollefteå , where she started for I21 IF Sollefteå . In 1988 she started biathlon and started for the first time in 1993 in Antholz in the World Cup , where she was 55th of an individual. The highlight of the first season was the Biathlon World Championships in 1993 in Borowetz , at which Westin was 48th in the individual, 16th in the sprint, ninth with Catarina Eklund , Heléne Dahlberg and Christina Eklund in the team race and seventh with Maria Schylander and the Eklunds in the relay race. After the World Cup she reached the points and her first top ten placement for the first time at the pre-Olympic competitions in Lillehammer with seventh place in a sprint. At the following sprint in Östersund she achieved her best career result with a fifth place. In the overall ranking of the World Cup, she was 28th that season. The next highlight was the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. Westin finished 60th in the sprint and achieved ninth place in the relay race with Catarina Eklund, Maria Schylander and Helene Dahlberg. A year later she finished 48th in the individual, 35th in the sprint at the World Championships in Antholz and was 14th in the relay with Susanne Hjert , Schylander and Magdalena Forsberg . In the seasons 1995/96 and 1996/97 she was not used in the World Cup, only in 1997/98 the Swede was used again. So she came in Nagano for her second use at the Olympic Games and was on the routes of Nozawa Onsen 52nd of the individual, 51st of the sprint and with Schylander, Forsberg and Kristina Brounéus tenth in the relay competition.
