Eva Poll (born August 12, 1938 in Aachen ) is a German gallery owner and curator .

life and work

Eva Poll grew up in Aachen , where she completed an apprenticeship as a primary school teacher after graduating from the Aachen University of Education. From 1959 to 1963 she worked at an elementary school for boys in neighboring Stolberg . In 1963 she married Lothar C. Poll and moved to Berlin. There she taught as a teacher at a primary school in Berlin-Neukölln until her daughter Nana was born in 1966. In 1968 she and her husband founded the Poll gallery in Niebuhrstrasse in Charlottenburg , which was the result of their friendship with the artists of Großgörschen 35 .

In 1969 Eva Poll was co-founder and from 1976 to 1982 chairwoman of the Berlin Art Dealers Interest Group (the predecessor of today's regional association), which organized the first contemporary art fairs in Berlin in the late 1960s, parallel to Cologne . She then worked for a number of years on the Senate's art advisory board and helped initiate the awarding of the Otto Nagel Prize , with an exhibition and a grant. She works u. a. on the board of the Daniel Chodowiecki Prize donated by Günter Grass , in the Poll Art Foundation , which she co-founded in 1986, and has set standards as a curator of numerous exhibitions in museums in Germany and other European countries as well as in Goethe Institutes worldwide. She is also on the board of the Morgenstern Foundation.

Awards

  • 1993: Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany as a "pioneer of realistic painting" (according to the former Senator for Culture Ulrich Roloff-Momin on the award of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic).
  • 2008: Honorary presidency of the State Association of Berlin Galleries
