Evagetes is a genus of the wasps (Pompilidae). There are 23 species in Europe.

features

The species of the genus Evagetes are small to medium-sized wasps. The head and thorax are finely structured. The frons is convex when viewed from the side. The inner edges of the usually large compound eyes are parallel. The more or less convex frontal plate ( clypeus ) is short and wide. Their apical margin is shortened, or more or less concave. The labrum is partially covered by the front plate. The mandibles are pointed with an additional tooth. The antennae are short and strong, the third limb is no longer than the scapus. In females, the antennae are thickest in the middle, the third segment is less than 2.8 times as long as it is thick. On the ventral side, the segment is more or less flattened. In the males the antennae are about the same thickness, the third segment is less than 1.4 times as long as it is thick. The metapostnotum is usually much shorter than the metanotum , which sometimes covers it medially. The finely structured propodeum is increasingly curved backwards. The wings are more or less tinted brown, they have a darker apical edge. The wing mark ( pterostigma ) is small. The legs are thorny, the tarsal ridge is well developed. The claws are toothed. The claws of the front tarsi are asymmetrical in the males. The inner one is smaller, curved and bifid, the outer one is longer, straight and has a tooth.

Way of life

The wasps are kleptoparasites in the nests of other wasps from the genera Arachnospila , Anoplius , Episyron and Pompilus .
