Evangelical Church (Franconian Crumbach)
The Evangelical Church in Fränkisch-Crumbach is the parish church of the community of Fränkisch-Crumbach in the Odenwaldkreis . Church and congregation belong to the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau .
architecture
The church with the churchyard is surrounded by the manor house , a cellar and the churchyard wall. This building complex is still characteristic of the village today. The church is Romanesque in origin and dates back to the 12th century. In 1485 the church building was extended by a tower and a new Gothic choir with ribbed vaults in the shape of a star. The rich furnishings with grave monuments in the outside and inside area of the church and a small round table with three legs in the shape of dolphins, the so-called Turkish drum, used as a baptismal font are of cultural and historical interest .
Epitaphs of the Lords of Rodenstein
The figurative representations of the tombstones of the Lords of Rodenstein , elaborately worked out in the manner of stonemasons, testify to the outstanding position of the noble family in the Middle Ages. The epitaph of Hans (III.) The Elder from Rodenstein , who built the eye-catching Gothic church choir, is one of the most important works of the German late Gothic period. It shows the knight in a characteristic armor of that time with sallet and chin guard. The two-handed sword broke off later, only the pommel is preserved. Hans d. Ä. died in 1500 on a pilgrimage to Rome and is buried on the Campo Santo Teutonico near St. Peter .
Another epitaph, the monument to Hans V. von Rodenstein from 1580, is now in the Hessian State Museum in Darmstadt .
