Evangelical Church Nohen

The Evangelical Church Nohen is the parish church of the Evangelical Church Community Nohen in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Birkenfeld ; Rimsberg is also part of the parish .

The church in the center of the village is surrounded by the cemetery. The oldest part is the tower, which dates back to the 14th century. Two spolia from pre-Romanesque times are present as fragments from a previous building . The nave and choir are from the late Gothic period . It is not certain how far modifications have been made over time. The nave may have been raised in the 18th century. During the renovation in 1936, when the entrance was moved from the south side to the west side of the tower, the church received an extension that is now used as a mortuary . At the same time, two figures of saints hidden in the attic were discovered, the whereabouts of which are unknown. In 1942, the church burned down completely due to a fire in the fireplace. The reconstruction took place in the years 1953/54. The tower was also raised by a bell storey. The church was rededicated on September 12, 1954.

The interior of the church is relatively simple. Existing building remains suggest that the vault of the choir was originally designed as a cross vault. The old sacrament house and a sacrarium are still present in the choir . The church has had a small Oberlinger organ with four stops since the 1970s .

With the introduction of the Reformation in the Hinteren Grafschaft Sponheim in 1557, the church became a Protestant parish church. In the 16th century and from 1800 to 1823 the parish had its own pastor. From 1570 to 1800 Nohen was connected to Reichenbach in a parish office ; since 1823 there has been a parish office connection with the second parish office of the parish of Birkenfeld . The parish today belongs to the Obere Nahe parish of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland .
