history

For the demolition of the old church in St. Goarshausen, which took place in the course of the construction of the Nassau Rheinbahn in 1857 , the church was compensated with a donation from the ducal state government in the amount of 27,000 guilders . This was intended to finance the new building planned by the Nassau State Building Councilor Eduard Zais (1804–1895).

In 1929 Otto Linnemann created the figural windows in the choir.

The foundation stone was laid on April 25, 1861, the inauguration on July 2, 1863. In fact, the construction costs amounted to around 40,000 guilders. Zais realized a richly structured outer facade with pinnacles and a pointed tower as well as an elaborate coffered ceiling in the otherwise simple interior.

Immediately before World War II

After war damage in the Second World War , the tower was shortened and covered with a simple hipped roof, the facade was greatly simplified and the choir room was changed.

The building is listed as a cultural monument in the register of monuments of the Rhein-Lahn district .

The organ was built in 1863 by the organ builder Christian Friedrich Voigt (Igstadt near Wiesbaden). Over time, the slider chest instrument was changed several times, particularly in the years 1957–1974. In 2006 the instrument was returned to its original state by organ builder Rainer Müller (Merxheim). The instrument has 18 stops on two manuals and a pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical. The instrument is about a semitone higher than normal (440 heart) usually intoned .
