Evangelical Church (Wolfenhausen)
The Evangelical Church in Wolfenhausen im Taunus , municipality of Weilmünster in the Limburg-Weilburg district in Hesse , is a single-nave baroque church. It was built in 1752.
history
The foundation stone was laid in 1752. The construction time to completion was two years. Previously there was probably a small chapel on this site, as the date of 1670 on one of the church bells speaks for.
architecture
It is a wide hall building that is effectively located on a hill above the town center. Above the gable side there is a multi-tiered hooded rider tower with a pommel and cross . There is an identical dome tower at the parish church of St. Margaretha in Hasselbach , which was built by the carpenter Alexander Glöckner from Weilburg . In the west masonry the church has two oculi . There are three narrow arched windows on both sides of the nave .
Equipment and organ
The furnishings come from the time the church was built. Below is an altar table made of black Lahn marble with a baluster base . A fundamental interior renovation was carried out in 1989. Special care was taken to restore the interior of the church to its original colors as much as possible. These are the Runkeler colors blue, red and gray, as well as the existing ceiling paintings to be exposed again. During the restoration, black angels with serious faces were exposed in all 4 corners, as well as a sun and a moon in the middle of the ceiling, which is sky blue. The serious faces are meant to remind of the hard times and hard work of the farmers. The original stars could not be restored. They were reapplied so that the blue sky with sun, moon and stars now shines completely again. The sermon pulpit, decorated with ears of corn and with various fruits hanging from the pulpit lid, is a reminder of rural times.
The organ was built in 1778–1781 by the organ builder Dreuth from Griedel .
Bells
There are three bells hanging in the tower. The oldest dates from 1670, the two younger ones were confiscated during World War I and World War II and had to be re-cast.
