The Evangelical Church Bad Ragaz (rare Reformed Church Bad Ragaz ) is an Evangelical - Reformed church in Bad Ragaz in the canton of St. Gallen . The church is located on Maienfelder Strasse at the eastern entrance to the village.

history

In contrast to neighboring Maienfeld, Ragaz did not accept the Reformation . Only in the 19th century did Reformed citizens move to the southern St. Gallen Rhine Valley . In 1857 the first Protestant parish assembly was constituted.

The services were celebrated fortnightly in the Hotel Hof , which had its own chapel. In 1863 the first pastor could be installed.

Soon afterwards, Bernhard Simon , the founder of the modern health resort Bad Ragaz, took up residence in the town. He replaced the makeshift house chapel with a prayer hall. German- and English-speaking Protestants were there.

The young parish tried to build its own church in the period that followed. In 1890, the new Evangelical Church, designed by the Berlin architect Johannes Vollmer , was inaugurated under the peal of four bells in the neo-Gothic tower clad with exposed brickwork .

Furnishing

The interior does not look typical for Swiss Reformed churches - probably also due to the Lutheran and Anglican spa guests and parishioners. The Bad Ragaz church has richly decorated colored windows all over the nave . In the choir above the baptismal font, which resembles an altar , there is a rosette . The wooden ceiling, which resembles the hull of a ship, probably refers to the symbolism of Noah's Ark .

organ

In 1968 an organ with 19 registers was built by Orgelbau Kuhn , Männedorf . In 2016, a new building took place, partially using the existing pipe material (marked by the organ building company Goll ). It has 26 registers, divided into main work, swell and pedal; the playing and stop action is purely mechanical. The disposition of the current instrument is:
