Evangelos "Vangelis" Ikonomou ( Greek Ευάγγελος "Βαγγέλης" Οικονόμου , born July 18, 1987 in Corinth ) is a Greek football player .

Career

Ikonomou began his professional career in January 2005 with Ionikos Nikea in the Greek second division. In 2009 he moved to the first division club AO Kavala . In 2011, the club was embroiled in a soccer scandal that involved match fixing, illegal betting and other allegations. The owner Stavros Psomiadis and trainer Giannis Papakostas were arrested. After a meeting of the disciplinary committee that lasted several hours, both Kavala and Olympiakos Volos were sentenced to relegation to the second division. On August 10, the Greek Federation announced that the penalties for Kavala had been converted into point deductions of ten points for the 2011/12 season.

As a result of the scandal, Ikonomou obtained a clearance and moved to Atromitos Athens . With Atromitos, Ikonomou reached the Greek Cup final in 2012, where he lost 2-1 to Olympiacos .

After a stay abroad in Scotland with Ross County , he moved to Panionios Athens in 2014 . At Panionios he established himself as a regular player and reached 90 appearances in the top Greek league.

Between January 2018 and 2020, Ikonomou was under contract with Panathinaikos Athens .
