Evzoni ( Greek Εύζωνοι ( m pl.. ) To 1927 Matsikovo Ματσίκοβο) is a local community with 919 inhabitants (2011) in the municipality Peonia in the region Central Macedonia in Greece . It consists of the villages Evzoni (331 Ew.), Metamorfosis (Μεταμόρφωσις, 206 Ew.) And Platania (Πλατανιά, 382 Ew.). Evzoni is located immediately south of the Greek border with North Macedonia, east of the Axios River . The nearest town in North Macedonia is Gevgelija , the nearest town is Bogorodica . The small Greek town of Polykastro is twelve kilometers south of Evzoni . Idomeni and the Idomeni border station are four kilometers to the northwest .
The Evzoni / Bogorodica border crossing is also located in the Evzoni area. There the North Macedonian Motorway M1 ( Veles - Skopje ) merges into the Greek Motorway 1 or National Road 1 . This road connection is also the European route 75 , the most important road connection from north to south in Greece. Otherwise Evzoni is a rural and agrarian town.
