Ewa Lipska

Ewa Lipska (born October 8, 1945 in Krakow ) is a Polish poet and writer . Since 1967 she has published several volumes of poetry and a novel .

biography

Ewa Lipska made her debut with first poems in 1961 in Gazeta Krakowska . After graduating from high school in 1963, she studied painting and art history at the Academy of Fine Arts in her hometown of Krakow . From 1964 her poetic contributions appeared in the magazines Życie Literackie and Dziennik Polski . Her first volume of poetry was published in 1967.

She was a member of the Association of Polish Writers (Związek Literatów Polskich, ZLP) from 1968 until its dissolution in 1983. From 1970 to 1980 she worked as a poetry editor for the publishing house "Wydawnictwo Literackie" ("Literature Publishing House") in Cracow. At the turn of 1975/76 she accepted a six-month scholarship from the International Writing Program at the invitation of the University of Iowa . In 1978 she became a member of the Polish PEN Club .

She was co-founder of the literary magazine Pismo ("Schrift") and a member of the editorial team from 1981 to 1983. 1983/84 she spent a year in West Berlin on a DAAD scholarship .

From 1990 to 1992 she was a member of the editorial team of Arka and Dekada Literacka (“The Ark” and “Literature Decade ”), Krakow. In 1991 she became deputy director and then director of the Polish Cultural Institute in Vienna , where she stayed until 1997. She has been working as a freelance writer since 1997 . She is a member of the Polska Akademia Umiejętności (PAU). Ewa Lipska lives and works in Krakow, Poland.
