Ewald Schäfer
Ewald Schäfer (born March 30, 1905 in Freienhagen , North Hesse ; † January 4, 2001 in Kiel ) was a German music teacher and song composer .
life and work
Ewald Schäfer moved with his parents to Danzig in 1915 , where he developed his love for music at an early age. In Leipzig he studied pedagogy with a focus on music. This was followed by the activity as a lecturer at the Gdansk University for Teacher Training.
After serving in the war and being a prisoner of war, he found his wife and three children in Schleswig-Holstein in 1947 . He secured the family's livelihood first as a dance musician, then as a music teacher at a high school in Eutin. From 1949 he was director of the East German Choir Eutin for decades until it was dissolved in 1994. Above all, however, he performed as a composer of many folk-song-like songs (e.g. the Unitarian song "Every morning there is a new act for you" or "Am Waldesrand die Birch stood out ": from d. Kassubei), canons, choral movements, piano and orchestral accompaniments for choral songs. He has also made a name for himself as an editor of song books.
