James Cameron and his team take the same route from Kiel with the research vessel Akademik Mstislaw Keldysch as the Bismarck once did . Two survivors of the battleship sunk in 1941 are also on board. A wreath in memory of the German and British victims was launched at the site of the accident. In a first dive with the Mir submarine , the shipwreck is tracked down at a depth of 5000 meters. The navigating bridge has separated when it sank and is upside down from the wreck. The remote-controlled Elwood probe can also track down an aircraft in the hangar of the wreck. During the next dive, the rudder is discovered, which may have been shot by a torpedo. It is now assumed that this was the reason for the ship's inability to maneuver and thus heralded the end. The researchers suspect that the ship may have been sunk by the crew themselves, as there is no clear indication of torpedo sinking. Finally, a memorial plaque is lowered into the wreck.
