The Experimenta is a former tanker that has been converted into an exhibition ship. It is intended to replace the premises of this Science Center during the renovation phase of the Experimenta Heilbronn .
history
Before the conversion to a science ship, the tanker built by Schlömer in Oldersum in 1973 was registered as Sally in Terneuzen ; earlier names were Schwanenwerder , Behringmeer , Roswitha and Primera . In 1978 the ship was rebuilt once. At that time, the Forges company in Strasbourg extended it.
The barge at Tinnemans in Maasbracht was converted into an exhibition ship, which took about eight months. The Experimenta was to be transferred from Maasbracht to Heilbronn in a four-day journey ; However, the trip had to be interrupted due to high water, so that the journey took a total of six days. On December 15, 2017, the ship reached its berth in the Altneckar near Badstrasse in Heilbronn. Two steel dolphins 17 meters long had been prepared there, to which the ship was moored for the next few months.

The tank partitions were removed and a double floor installed. This was concreted and provided with underfloor heating. Two laboratories and training rooms are installed in the approximately 600 m² deck. To be able to pass low bridges, there are two ballast tanks amidships with a total capacity of 650 m³. The wheelhouse is adjustable in height.
use
At this berth, Experimenta is to be used from January 8, 2018 for hands-on exhibitions and other events, but especially by school classes for experiments. There are two laboratories on board for this purpose. Ralph Caspers and children, who have won a painting competition, are expected to be present at the ship's christening at the end of January 2018. For the time of the Federal Garden Show 2019 , the ship is to change its berth and be moored at the exhibition site. Then it will go on tour and advertise the Experimenta in German ports.
