Ey (Upper Harz family)
The roots of the Ey family from Clausthal can be traced back to the Upper Harz for around two centuries . The family has been associated with local writers and their collections of fairy tales , sagas and prosaic stories in the dialect of the miners from the Upper Harz as well as with associated publishers and bookstores up to the more recent since the German Age of Enlightenment and Romanticism from the 19th century onwards History of the Lower Saxony state capital Hanover .

The oldest ancestor to date is said to be Johann Christian Friedrich Ey , born in Clausthal at the beginning of the 19th century , baptized as an Evangelical Lutheran and married to Sophie Jacobine Hüddersen (born June 25, 1805 in Ührde ; † October 5, 1834 ibid).
In 1810 the teacher and local writer August Ey was born in Clausthal , the father of the later professor and local writer Adolf Ey .
From the middle of the 19th century, literature about Clausthal and the Upper Harz became the focus of national interest: the pastor and local poet Georg Schulze , who was also born in Clausthal in 1807 , collected ... sagas and fairy tales in the for his resin poems published in Clausthal in 1833 Dialect of individual miners named by name, some of whom also lived in Clausthal. Map shop and second-hand bookshop ”, his son Ludwig Ey continued this bookstore and ran a publishing house.
