The ferries Bremen Stedingen GmbH (FBS) is a ferry company that ferry connections between Bremen and Lower Saxony Weserufer operates.
This operates the ferry stations:
- Berne - Farge ,
- Blumenthal –Motzen and
- Vegesack - Lemwerder
The company's shareholders are the city of Bremen and the Wesermarsch district . The FBS currently employs around 80 people.
Creation of the company
Ferry connections have existed on the Weser for several centuries. However, the ferry stations were operated by different companies. The ferry stations Blumenthal ↔ Motzen and Berne ↔ Farge were merged as Schnelllastfähre Berne-Farge GmbH before the FBS was founded. The Vegesack – Lemwerder ferry connection was operated by the Niekamp ferry company. At that time there was already an agreement that z. B. cards of ten that were bought in Vegesack were also valid in Blumenthal, but this was done without financial compensation, as it was thought that the ratio was roughly balanced. In 1993 the ferry Bremen-Stedingen GmbH was founded.
The ferry stations
All three ferry stations are served around the clock.
Berne ↔ Bremen-Farge
Location This is the northernmost of the ferry stations. TheFargeand Juliusplate ferries are used here, so that a crossing can take place every 10 minutes from each bank during rush hour. Otherwise, it is driven either every 20 minutes, every 30 minutes or at night every hour.
Blumenthal ↔ Motzen
Location TheStedingenferry isused here. During peak times, the ferry leaves the respective banks every 15 minutes. Otherwise, there is also a 20-minute, 30-minute or hourly nightly service.
Vegesack ↔ Lemwerder
Location This connection is the busiest. Two large ferries are used here on weekdays between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., theVegesackand theLemwerder II. This means that, as in Farge, it is possible to drive every 10 minutes. On weekends, the ride is every 20 minutes, every 30 minutes and, at night, every hour. This ferry point is particularly used by pedestrians and cyclists.

Special occurrences
On the evening of April 24, 2008 there was a collision between the Rönnebeck and the inland vessel Vivarium . The barge rammed the Rönnebeck roughly in the middle and damaged the ferry. However , the Rönnebeck could be repaired within a week at the Fassmer shipyard . During the downtime, the Berne-Farge operated between Blumenthal and Motzen.
In the night of August 5th to 6th, 2011, the Lemwerder II tore itself away from its berth due to the suction of a passing ship and collided with a ship lying there in the entrance to Vegesack harbor. There was property damage. The crew of the trains running on the route between Vegesack and Lemwerder Ferry Vegesack who noticed the incident, managed to return the rudderless ship at the berth.
On October 1, 2011, the Berne-Farge ferry was pressed against the sheet pile wall and damaged by waves from a passing mega-yacht at the Berne pier. One passenger sustained an injury to his leg.
