Fünfing bei Gleisdorf is a village and cadastral municipality of  the market town of Sinabelkirchen in the district of Weiz in Styria  with 197 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).

The village of Fünfing near Gleisdorf consists of the three scattered settlements of Fünfing, Kaltenbrunnberg and Pamerwald.

Origin of name

The name comes from the former five large farmers in Fünfing near Gleisdorf .

history

Some consider the mention of an Otto von Fünfing in the March feed register of 1286 as the first documented reference to the place. There is no dispute that Fünfing near Gleisdorf was mentioned in 1410 as a knightly place which was administered by Konrad von Fünfing.

Fünfing formed its own community in the 19th century and was later part of the community of Wolfgruben near Gleisdorf . When the community Wolfgruben bei Gleisdorf was dissolved in 1968, the area of ​​the cadastral community of Fünfing bei Gleisdorf was attached to the community of Sinabelkirchen.

Times of need

In 1782 locusts plagued the village and destroyed parts of the Fünfings vegetation in addition to the harvest. Also from the plague was in Gleisdorf Fünfing not spared. Plague crosses in the Fünfinggraben remind of this today .
