Fürth Gate
The Fürther Tor is a gate through the Nuremberg city wall and one of the main entrances to the southwestern Nuremberg old town.
The relief of the Spittlertor through the construction of the Ludwigstor in 1866 did not last long. In 1894 another connection to Gostenhof became necessary. The "Rotes S" tower was demolished and a mighty vault was built over the street. The gate was named after the nearby Fürther Straße . In 1898 Konradin Walther built the “Ludwigstorzwinger” restaurant on the gate. There Julius Streicher founded the Nuremberg local branch of the NSDAP on October 20, 1922 . The restaurant was destroyed in the Second World War and was not rebuilt afterwards.
The Ludwigstorzwinger extends south of the Fürther Tor towards the Ludwigstor, while the Tucherzwinger extends to the north. The Tucher Zwinger was the first round bastion to be built in Nuremberg. It was built in 1526, called "Pastete" and raised in 1527.
