F. Gustav Jansen

Friedrich Gustav Jansen (born December 15, 1831 in Jever , † May 3, 1910 in Hanover ) was a German organist and musicologist .

Life

Jansen received his musical training in Leipzig and was then initially a music teacher in Göttingen . From 1855 to 1900 he was the organist in Verden Cathedral , and from 1861 he was also the royal music director. After his retirement he lived in Hanover.

He earned merit with his research and publications on the composer Robert Schumann . To this end, he conducted intensive correspondence with Clara Schumann in particular .
