FO Bernstein

Friedrich Otto Bernstein (* 1929 in Leipzig ; † 1999 ) was a German photographer .

Life

Bernstein began studying photography in 1948 at the College of Graphics and Book Art , which he graduated in 1952 with a degree in photography. During this time he documented life in a social hotspot in Leipzig. As a self-employed person, Bernstein took photos for VEB Automobilwerk Eisenach . From 1956 to 1958, Bernstein was involved in the “action fotografie” group of artists, which included Roger Rössing , Renate Rössing , Günter Rössler , Ursula Arnold and Volkmar Jaeger .

In 1958 he moved to Düsseldorf . There he continues to work as a commercial photographer for companies such as Citroën , Renault and Leitz, but also photographed jazz concerts by Louis Armstrong , Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington as well as natural spectacles such as geyser eruptions in Iceland .

Part of his estate has been in the possession of the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig and the Eisenach City Archives since 2007.
