The Fazit-Stiftung Gemeinnützige Verlagsgesellschaft mbH (own spelling: FAZIT-STIFTUNG ), based in Frankfurt am Main , was founded by the publishers and editors of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung so that the political course of the FAZ could not be changed by the publisher's takeover of capital in this way to ensure "the editorial and corporate independence of the newspaper effectively and permanently".
The foundation's assets
Conclusion each holds more than 90 percent of the capital of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung GmbH and Frankfurter Societät , which is responsible for the other operational business of the Societäts-Gruppe. a. the Frankfurter Societäts-Druckerei and the Frankfurter Societät Medien , at which u. a. the Frankfurter Neue Presse appears. The Frankfurter Societät itself emerged from a reorganization of the Societäts printing house.
The share capital is 90,000 euros. The income from these investments is used exclusively for charitable purposes. The aim of Fazit is the promotion of science and research, education and upbringing, among other things by awarding scholarships for doctorates and habilitation at universities and technical colleges . In addition, universities, technical colleges and universities of applied sciences as well as research institutes of the Max Planck Society are supported.
Provisions of the partnership agreement
According to the articles of association, their shareholders are up to nine people, each with equal shares, whose share is handed over to successors without financial compensation, who are unanimously selected by the general meeting. According to Paragraph 5, “only those persons should become shareholders who, according to their position and personality, guarantee the preservation of the non-profit tax status of the company and the preservation of the independence of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. The age of the shareholders is limited to 75 years. A partner can also be excluded and must hand over his share to the successor determined by the others.
The shareholders' meeting is called the Board of Trustees. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Managing Director is Karl Dietrich Seikel .

The conclusion arose on April 22, 1959 when the FAZ majority shareholder at the time, Allgemeine Verlagsgesellschaft mbH , was converted into FAZIT-STIFTUNG Gemeinnützige Verlagsgesellschaft mbH. In 1989, Imprimatur GmbH , which was still from the Weimar period, merged with Fazit and thus brought its majority share in the Frankfurter Societäts-Druckerei into the foundation's capital.
