Michael Hoffmann-Becking

Michael Hoffmann-Becking (born February 8, 1943 in Magdeburg ) is a German lawyer , legal scholar and honorary professor .

Life

After graduating from high school in Olpe / Westphalia in 1962 , he studied law in Freiburg , Munich and Münster . In 1966 he passed the legal traineeship exam at the Hamm Higher Regional Court and in 1970 assessor exam in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1968 he graduated as Dr. jur. at the University of Münster .

From 1966 to 1968 he was a research assistant with Hans J. Wolff (1898-1976) in Münster and 1970/71 research assistant with habilitation projects in administrative law with Hans-Uwe Erichsen at the University of Bochum . His aunt introduced him to the distant relative industrial lawyer Hans Hengeler from Düsseldorf, who initially encouraged Hoffmann-Becking to continue his scientific career. But since Hengeler urgently needed an employee two weeks later, Hoffmann-Becking was accepted into the firm, although he did not know more than the basics of corporate law. He has been a lawyer at Hengeler Mueller in Düsseldorf since April 1, 1971, and in 1975 he became the eighth partner of the law firm. In 1975 he turned down the appointment as general counsel at AEG . The focus of his work as a lawyer are the company law , particularly in the equity and corporate group law , the counseling of listed companies and family businesses, mergers and acquisitions , restructuring of companies, compliance , corporate succession . He primarily advises large corporations (such as RWE ), entrepreneurial families (the Mohns, the Quandts , the Stihls , the Boehringers (Ingelheim) and the mail-order heiress Madeleine Schickedanz, among others)

Since 1999 he has been a lecturer in stock corporation and corporate law at the University of Bonn and since 2002 honorary professor . Since 1981 he has also been co-editor of the magazine for the entire commercial law (ZHR), since 1998 co-editor of the Neue Zeitschrift für Unternehmensrecht (NZG), founding member of the support association Initiative Neue Soziale Marktwirtschaft .

From 1988 to 2000 member of the "Permanent Deputation" (board of directors) of the German Lawyers' Association , 1990 deputy chairman of the legal training department of the 58th DJT in Munich, 1992 advisor to the commercial law department of the 59th DJT in Hanover, 1996 deputy chairman of the commercial law department of the 61st DJT in Hanover DJT in Karlsruhe, 1998 deputy chairman of the legal training department of the 62nd DJT in Bremen, 2000 chairman of the commercial law department of the 63rd DJT in Leipzig.

Since 1994 he has been chairman of the commercial law committee of the German Bar Association (member since 1984).

Hoffmann – Becking is married and has two sons. He has been a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. since 1962. Falkenstein Freiburg in the CV . In 2013 he took over the name sponsorship of the Phi Delta Phi Inn at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .
