Ludwig Georg Braun

Ludwig Georg Braun (born September 21, 1943 in Melsungen ) is a German entrepreneur. He is the honorary president of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) and former chairman of the board of the pharmaceutical and medical supplies company B. Braun Melsungen AG .

Life

After graduating from school in 1963, Braun trained as a banker in Kassel until 1965 . Practical business studies in Great Britain and the USA followed . After completing his military service, he first worked in Brazil as head of the local branch of the family company, then in Germany, and from 1977 onwards as the successor to his father Otto Braun as CEO.

He is also a local politician for the FDP . He sits in the Melsung city council and is chairman of the urban development committee.

On February 13, 2001 he became President of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry . In January 2004, Braun demanded a three-year zero round for wages and salaries. He advised small and medium-sized companies on several occasions to invest in the EU accession states. He repeatedly advised German companies to move parts of their production abroad instead of waiting for better policies . Representatives of the SPD accused him of irresponsible and unpatriotic behavior. Braun's term of office ended in 2009. He was succeeded by DIHK Vice President Hans Heinrich Driftmann .

Braun serves on several supervisory boards and is a member of the board of trustees of the German Foundation for Monument Protection and the Robert Bosch Foundation . Since 1986 he has been a member of the Synod of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck. He is married, has five children and, according to his own statements, practices the Christian faith .

Ludwig Georg Braun was a member of the 13th , 14th and 15th Federal Assemblies at the suggestion of the FDP Hesse and thus took part in the elections of three German Federal Presidents .
