The FIDE Grand Prix 2014-2015 was a series of chess tournaments with the participation of the world's best that took place from October 2014 to May 2015. The first two winners ( Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura ) qualified for the candidates' tournament for the 2016 World Chess Championship .

The Grand Prix consisted of four tournaments with 12 players each. 16 top players from the world took part, each playing in three tournaments. The winner of each tournament received 170 points, the second 140 and the third 110. For 4th to 12th place there were 90, 80, ... to 10 points. Only the board points counted for the placement in each tournament; there was no fine evaluation . If players shared the placement, the total points were split.

The tournaments took place in Baku , Tashkent , Tbilisi and Khanty-Mansiysk . Tehran was originally planned for the third tournament , which met with criticism. As expressed Fabiano Caruana that he would not play in Tehran because it was not safe in Iran for US citizens. In mid-October 2014, FIDE changed the venue. The fourth tournament was originally supposed to take place in Moscow .

qualification

After the pre-qualified players Magnus Carlsen , Viswanathan Anand , Levon Aronjan , Wladimir Kramnik and Wesselin Topalow had not exercised their starting authorization, the following list of participants emerged:
