The Veytaux power plant is a pumped storage power plant located in the Swiss canton of Vaud .

The power plant belongs to Forces Motrices Hongrin-Léman SA, founded in 1963 . Romande Energie has a 41.13% stake in this company , Alpiq 39.13%, Groupe E 13.13% and the city of Lausanne 6.43%.

technology

The power plant uses the difference in altitude between the Lac de l'Hongrin reservoir ( 1255  m above sea level ), into which the Hongrin and Petit Hongrin flow, and Lake Geneva ( 377  m above sea level ). The water flows from the reservoir via an 8 km long pipe to the power plant. The power plant has four machine sets, each with two Pelton turbines with a total output of 240  megawatts (MW). There are also four pumps available. The average annual production is 520  GWh of electrical energy, which is fed into the power grid.

Veytaux II power plant (FMHL +)

The new FMHL + headquarters was built with an investment of 331 million francs . The output of the power plant was increased from 240 MW to 480 MW, which should enable an annual electricity production of 1000 GWh. For this purpose, two pump turbine machine sets, each with 120 MW, were built in an underground cavern near the existing headquarters, of which 60 MW serve as a reserve and thus a total of 420 MW will normally be available. A feasibility study for this was carried out in 2007. The permit was granted in 2010 and construction work began in 2011. The plant was commissioned in 2016.
