The FSV Vohwinkel (officially: Fußball Sport Verein Vohwinkel 48 eV ) is a football club from the Wuppertal district of Vohwinkel . The first team played in the Oberliga Niederrhein in the 2017/18 season .

history

The association was founded on July 18, 1948 by some residents of the Lüntenbeck district as Lüntenbecker SV . Since there was initially no suitable sports field in Lüntenbeck, an area in the neighboring town of Wülfrath was used in the first few years . Today's sports field in Lüntenbeck was opened on October 12, 1952 with a friendly against TSG Vohwinkel . Seven years later, a rival club was founded with FC Vohwinkel . In 1970 Lüntenbecker SV merged with FC Vohwinkel to form today's FSV Vohwinkel. In 1977 the FSV President Werner Hesterberg had to leave the club after internal quarrels. He then turned to the BSG Rot-Weiß Tesche , which joined the DFB as Tescher SV . Eight years later this club was renamed SC Phönix Wuppertal , which then joined the FSV Vohwinkel in 2006.

After many years at the local level, the FSV Vohwinkel was promoted to the district league in 2004. Three years later, he was promoted to the Lower Rhine regional league . Ex-professional Holger Gaissmayer , who scored 41 goals this season, played a major role in this . In the regional league, the "foxes" did not get beyond mediocrity and in 2014 had to relegate to the regional league. A year later, the FSV was runner-up in his district league relay behind SSV Heiligenhaus , before another runner-up behind ASV Mettmann followed in 2016 . This season, however, a promotion relegation was held between the runners-up of the six regional league seasons and the fourth-last of the two regional league seasons, in which the Vohwinkel team won 3-2 after extra time against VfB Frohnhausen in one of the two final pairings .

Back in the state league, the "Füchse" played in the top group for a long time and were finally able to secure the championship with a 7-0 win at TV Kalkum-Wittlaer and thus marched into the highest Lower Rhine region within one year at the end of the 2016/17 season Amateur league through. As the penultimate of the 2017/18 season , the Vohwinkelers had to be relegated again and were passed through to the district league in the following 2018/19 state league season. In 2020 he was promoted to the regional league again.
