The steam locomotive series kkStB P was a narrow gauge - Tender Locomotive series of Imperial State Railways of Austria .

The kkStB procured three of these narrow-gauge locomotives in 1911 from Krauss in Linz for the Trieste – Parenzo local railway . The name of this series of locomotives also results from the first letter of Parenzo (now Poreč , Croatia).

The P 7 or R402.007 in the museum in Milan

After the First World War, the machines remained on their main line and were now part of the FS inventory . They were designated as the FS P series. Since the FS was very satisfied with her, she ordered six more machines of this series from Reggiane in 1922 . According to the current state of railway research, these six machines were actually under construction at Krauss in Linz, but individual parts were handed over to Italy after the end of the war.

After the end of their main line in 1938, the now nine machines were re-gauged to 950 mm and moved to Sicily . They received group R.402 . They were retired in 1959 . Only the FS 402.007, which came to Parma in 1943 , landed in Rome in 1963 and in 1967 in the Museo nazionale della scienza e della tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci (Science and Technology Museum Leonardo da Vinci, Milan).

The BBÖ , which had taken over the Niederösterreichische Landesbahnen (NÖLB) in 1923 , was looking for suitable locomotives for the branch line of the Mariazellerbahn Ruprechtshofen - Gresten, which was completed in 1927 . Since the route conditions were similar to that of the Trieste – Parenzo route, it was decided to order three Type P machines from Krauss in Linz. In terms of dimensions, they were identical to the kkStB machines except for slightly smaller cylinders.

The Deutsche Reichsbahn classified it in 1938 as 99 1001-1003. In the following years the 99 1001 was leased to the Lviv forest administration , from where it never returned.

In 1953 the ÖBB classified the two remaining machines as  199.02-03 , they were now mainly used on the narrow-gauge railways in Carinthia , the Gurktalbahn and the Vellachtalbahn . They were retired in 1973. The 199.02 of the ÖBB has been preserved in the vehicle collection of the Gurktalbahn museum railway in Carinthia, 199.03 came to the Slovenian town of Izola as part of a vehicle exchange , where it is a monument to the Parenzana.
