Fabian Virchow

Fabian Virchow (* 1960 in Heiligenhafen ) is a German social scientist .

Career

Virchow studied sociology with a focus on political science , economics, and economic and social history at the University of Hamburg (graduate sociologist). In 2005 he was funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation at Hajo Funke and Wolfgang Wippermann at the Free University of Berlin with a thesis on the geopolitical and military-political conceptions of the extreme right to the Dr. rer. pole. PhD.

He was then a lecturer at the Kiel University of Applied Sciences , the University of Lüneburg and the Philipps University of Marburg as well as a visiting professor at the University of Salzburg . In 2006/07 he was a professor at the Center for Conflict Research at the Philipps University of Marburg, where he is still a member today. From 2007 to 2010 he was the editor-in-chief of the journal Science and Peace . In March 2010, he received the call to the professor of political science at the University of Applied Sciences Dusseldorf ( theories of social and political action ). In addition, he took over the management of the research focus right-wing extremism / neo-Nazism (FORENA). Virchow's research interests include cultural research, communication, international relations , military sociology , social movements and right-wing extremism .

He is a member of the German Society for Sociology , the German Association for Political Science , the German Society for Journalism and Communication Studies and the Working Group on Peace and Conflict Research .

Virchow is co-editor of the series Edition right-wing extremism at Springer VS .
