Fabio Halb (born February 16, 1997 in Feldbach ) is an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). He was elected Austria's youngest mayor on October 1, 2017 in the 391-strong community of Mühlgraben ( Jennersdorf district ) in Burgenland .

Career

After the previous mayor, Reinhard Knaus, who had headed the municipality since the local council election in 2002 , announced that he would not be available for another legislative period, a new SPÖ candidate had to be found. On May 5, 2017, in the expanded local conference of the SPÖ Mühlgraben, Fabio Halb was elected as mayor candidate with a large majority, although he had not previously been a member of the local council , but was only a member and secretary of the local party. In the 2017 municipal council election on October 1, 2017, he had to compete against the candidate of the BUM citizen list , Armin Schweitzer. There he achieved 79.44% of the votes and was able to surpass the result of his predecessor, who achieved 60.19%, by 19.25%. Thanks to Halb, the local SPÖ was also able to improve its election result compared to the 2012 municipal council election by 5.56% to 63.87% and win another mandate.

Fabio Halb was born with politics, because his uncle Wilhelm Halb was Reinhard Knaus's predecessor and held the office of mayor for ten years. His great-great uncle Karl half was also politician and was the Agrarian League 1922-1923 Member of the Burgenland Landtag .

Life

At the age of seven years half began Mühlgraben the domestic SV football to play. At the age of ten he moved to ASV St. Martin an der Raab , where scouts from the Grazer AK noticed his talent and at the age of twelve guided him to Graz and on to the HIB Liebenau football academy . In the summer of 2012 he returned to his hometown club, but moved to UFC Jennersdorf a year later . Another year later, half was committed by the USV St. Anna , where he came to four missions in the Styrian regional league (fourth level). Nevertheless, he returned to SV Mühlgraben again in January 2015. In the summer of 2016 he moved to USV Pircha , where he stayed again for only six months and returned to SV Mühlgraben in January 2016. After suffering a serious injury ( cruciate ligament tear ) in the summer of 2016 , he had to interrupt his football career, at least for the time being.

After completing an apprenticeship as a banker in Graz after attending the HIB Liebenau football academy and completing it in 2015, he is now working at Bank Burgenland .
