Fabio Presgrave

Fabio Presgrave (* in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian cellist and music teacher.

Presgrave studied at the Juilliard School with Joel Krosnick and Harvey Shapiro and received the Felix Salmond Award for violoncello. During his student days he led the Juilliard Cellists ensemble in a performance of Heitor Villa-Lobos ' Bachianas Brasileiras with soprano Daniella Carvalho at Carnegie Hall . As a soloist, he has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra , the Orquestra Filarmônica de Rosário and most professional Brazilian orchestras under the direction of conductors such as Rafael Payare , Apo Hsu and Lior Shambadal . He has premiered cello works by Jonatas Manzollis , Marisa Rezendes , Pablo Castellars , Rodrigo Cicchellis , Raimundo Penafortes , Roberto Victorios and Silvio Ferraz 'and recorded compositions by José Siqueira and Camargo Guarnieri on CD. With the violinist Daniel Guedes , he recorded works by Astor Piazolla and Villa-Lobos.

For the soundtrack of the film “Sal de Prata” he played Tchaikovsky's Nocturne for cello and strings. He also took part in the recording of the album DANTE XXI by the Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura . In addition, he taught at all major Brazilian festivals, including the festivals of Campos do Jordão, Brasilia and Salvador, and gave masterclasses at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, at the Nordjysk Music Conservatory in Aarhus, and at the Conservatório Superior de Música in Oviedo and at the Münster University of Music . He is Professor of Cello and Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Music at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul and teaches at the Universidade de São Paulo . In 2015–16 he was visiting professor at the Musikhochschule Münster. In 2018 he was visiting professor at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . For his research on contemporary cello technique, he received his doctorate from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP).
