Fabrizio Verallo

Fabrizio Verallo , also Fabrizio Varallo or Fabrizio Veralli (* around 1565 in Rome , † November 17, 1624 there ) was an Italian cardinal and Roman Catholic bishop .

Life

He was a nephew of Cardinal Girolamo Verallo and related to Pope Urban VII. He obtained a doctorate from the University of Perugia . On March 15, 1590 he was appointed canon of the Vatican Basilica . Under the pontificate of Pope Clement VIII , he was inquisitor in Malta from 1600 to 1605 . He then became a trainee lawyer at the Courts of Justice of the Apostolic Signature .

Fabrizio Verallo was elected bishop of San Severo on May 5, 1606 . He was ordained bishop on May 28 of the same year in the Roman church of Santa Cecilia by Cardinal Roberto Bellarmino SJ ; Co- consecrators were Camillo Sozombene , Bishop of Pula , and Camillo Beccio , Bishop of Acqui . Fabrizio Verallo was Apostolic Nuncio in Switzerland from June 10, 1606 to June 24, 1608 .

Pope Paul V elevated him to cardinal priest in the consistory of November 24, 1608 . The red hat and Sant'Agostino as a titular church Fabrizio Verallo received on 10 December of the same year. He renounced the bishopric of San Severo before May 23, 1615. Fabrizio Verallo was a participant in the 1621 conclave , which Pope Gregory XV. chose. Cardinal Verallo also took part in the 1628 conclave, which Urban VIII elected as Pope. He also became Commendatar Abbot of Sant'Agnese fuori le mura .

Fabrizio Verallo died in Rome at the age of 54 or 58 and was buried in his titular church, Sant'Agostino .
