Fancy Cherono (born August 2, 2001 in Kericho ) is a Kenyan obstacle runner .

Athletic career

Fancy Cherono gained her first international experience at the Junior African Championships 2017 in Tlemcen , where she finished fifth in the 3000 meter run in 9: 38.16 minutes . The following year she was sixth at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast in 9: 46.27 min and won over 2000 m obstacle in 6: 17.68 min at the African Youth Games in Algiers . Then she won the bronze medal at the African Championships in Asaba in 9: 23.92 minutes behind her compatriots Beatrice Chepkoech and Celliphine Chepteek Chespol . In October she won the combination of obstacle course and cross-country running at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires . In 2019 she won the Junior African Championships in Abidjan with a new championship record of 9: 48.56 min. She also qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where she did not reach the final with 9: 32.34 min .

In 2019 Cherono became the Kenyan obstacle course champion.
