The Kenyan Athletics Championships 2019 were held from August 20-22 at Nyayo National Stadium in the capital, Nairobi .

Originally, the championships were also intended to serve as a qualifying competition ( trials ) for the Kenyan team at the 2019 World Athletics Championships . Two weeks before the event, the Kenyan Athletics Association ( Athletics Kenya ) postponed the trials to September 12th and 13th. This was justified by the wishes of several top athletes to participate in the IAAF Diamond League competitions ( Birmingham Grand Prix on August 18th and Meeting de Paris on August 24th) taking place during the same period . Only the runs over 10,000 meters continued to serve as an elimination race for the World Cup team, for which the top 3 qualified. However, the men's 10,000 meter winner Geoffrey Kamworor announced that he would not take part in the world championships and would instead concentrate on the 2019 New York City Marathon .
