Fander Falconí Benítez (born September 19, 1962 ) is an Ecuadorian economist and politician .
biography
After attending school, he completed a degree in economics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador , which he completed with a master's degree (Maestría de Economía). He then worked as an economist at the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), a transnational organization for research, teaching and promotion of the social sciences in Latin America . He also completed postgraduate studies in economic ecology at the University of Barcelona , which he completed with both a master's and a doctorate . After his return he worked as an academic coordinator and as a coordinator of the doctoral programs for business, development aid and research at FLACSA. Later he also worked as an employee of the Instituto Latinoamericano de Investigaciones Sociales (ILDIS) , a social science institute in Quito , which was founded in 1974 as the regional office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation .
On January 15, 2007 he was appointed National Secretary (State Secretary) for Planning and Development by the newly elected President Rafael Correa , after he had previously been one of the co-coordinators of the government program of his party Movimiento PAÍS . On December 15, 2008, President Correa appointed him to succeed the previously resigned Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration María Isabel Salvador . In January 2010 he was replaced by Ricardo Patiño .
During a visit to the Federal Republic of Germany in June 2009, he agreed with the State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Erich Stather , that the Federal Republic of Germany would pay 50 million dollars a year into a trust fund so that Ecuador would have huge oil reserves in the Amazon rainforest in the Yasuní National Park does not exploit.
