Fanny Moran-Olden
Fanny Moran-Olden (born September 28, 1855 in Cloppenburg , † February 12, 1905 in Berlin ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ).
Life
Fanny Moran-Olden was born in Cloppenburg in the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg as the daughter of the Secret Medical Councilor Tappehorn. Out of consideration for her parents, who were against a stage career, she used the name of her place of birth "Olden" as the stage name .
She trained as an opera singer in Dresden and made a brilliant debut . Soon, however, she got into a heated argument. She left Dresden and went to the opera in Frankfurt a. M., where she successfully developed into a great singer over the next six years. In 1879 she married the tenor Moran.
In 1884 she became a celebrated singer at the Leipzig City Theater and from 1884–1891 at the Leipzig Opera . In November and December 1889 she made guest appearances at the Berlin Opera House and was engaged for this stage from 1891.
As a Wagner singer, she visited the United States in 1888 and was celebrated there as one of the greatest sopranos in the world.
In 1897 she married the opera singer Theodor Bertram .
Her vocal range was so large that she performed both high soprano parts (e.g. Norma , Donna Anna , Isolde ) and low alto parts such as Fides in The Prophet and Leah. She sang Elisabeth in Tannhäuser , Brünnhilde in the Ring of the Nibelung and Fidelio .
She died mentally deranged in 1905.
Dora Moran-Olden (1880–1930), her daughter from her first marriage, was a well-known concert and lieder singer.
