Colors of Love (Original title: The Forger or Carmel-by-the-Sea ) is an American direct-to-video film drama from 2012.

15-year-old Joshua Mason ( Josh Hutcherson ) is neglected by his drug addict mother. When she suddenly leaves him, he finds refuge in the painting town of Carmel-by-the-Sea , California . There he discovers an unfinished painting, which he finishes. When a man comes by and tries to buy the picture from him, the owner of the painting shows up and Joshua runs away.
On the way he sees Amber who is about to go to lunch. The two start a conversation and are only interrupted when a teacher comes by, since the lunch break is long over. He grabs Amber by the arm and wants to drag her back to class. Joshua climbs the fence to help her, but Amber's brother Ryan comes by to tell him to leave. The two get into a fight until Joshua escapes.
He finds Everly Campbell's house unlocked and goes inside. There is an art studio in the basement where he finds an unfinished painting. He decides to finish painting it and manages to make the picture look exactly like the template in front of him. He falls asleep in the basement and is arrested by the police the next day for having vandalized a hotel room. Everly and his assistant Bernie see the finished painting and realize that Joshua must have finished it. Joshua's new social worker Vanessa Reese agrees Joshua can stay with Everly. Everly wants him to stay because he wants to use his talent. He introduces Joshua to the world of art forgery as he is himself a forger.
Everly is looking for an artist who can recreate a valuable picture whose original has been lost and which is worth many millions of dollars. He believes Joshua can be that artist. After the picture of Joshua is painted, Everly makes an awkward remark about Joshua's mother who has left him. Knowing that Everly is right, Joshua gets angry and hides the painting. He finds shelter with the retired artist Annemarie Sterling, who befriends him. With her help, he goes to a party he was not invited to. There he sees Amber with another boy. He gets jealous and goes after them. However, he is intercepted by Ryan and they get into a fight before Ryan can tell him that the boy was Amber's cousin. Joshua is embarrassed and he leaves the party.
A few days later, Everly and Joshua meet at Annemarie's art studio and Everly explains to him that the two are the same. Joshua recognizes this, but does not want to accept it, whereupon he hastily leaves the studio. At the same time, Vanessa collects information about Annemarie. She learns that she has forged a picture to get money for an operation on her daughter who was seriously injured in a house fire. But Annemarie's daughter died in the operation.
Joshua's picture is to be published at Everly's birthday party. Joshua starts painting again. When the picture is unveiled, Annemarie comes and cuts the picture in the middle with a knife. She reveals to everyone that Everly is an art forger. The film ends when Joshua tosses the painting into the sea and hugs and kisses Amber.

The film, The Forger , previously announced as Carmel , is Lawrence Roeck's feature film debut. Josh Hutcherson and Hayden Panettiere were cast as the main characters . It is noteworthy that with Lauren Bacall , the widow of Humphrey Bogart , a great star of the classic Hollywood era was signed. The film was shot on 24 days in February 2009 in Carmel-by-the-Sea , but not fully produced.
In 2010 Experience Media Studios acquired the rights to the unfinished film and finished producing it by February 15, 2011.

The film was supposed to be in theaters in early 2012, but was postponed indefinitely because of Hutcherson's film The Hunger Games - The Hunger Games . The film was released directly on DVD on July 3, 2012.
The film was released on DVD in Germany on November 11, 2013.
