Farther Along is the eleventh music album by the American folk rock band The Byrds . It was released on November 17, 1971 on the Columbia Records label . Dismayed by the bad reviews and sales figures of Byrdmaniax , with which the band was also dissatisfied, the four musicians quickly traveled to London to record another album and this time to produce it themselves. The album was a little warmer than its predecessor, but it turned out to be a commercial failure. It peaked at # 152 on the pop charts in the States; there was no chart entryin Great Britain .

On November 29, the album 's only single, America's Great National Pastime / Farther Along , was released, which did not chart either in the United States or in the UK.

Farther Along was supposed to be the Byrds' last studio album for the time being. They performed with changing drummers for over a year until Roger McGuinn broke up the band in early 1973. He then realized a reunion of the original line-up in the same year.
