Fathwinter

Fathwinter , stage name for Franz Alfred Theophil Winter (born May 23, 1906 in Mainz , † June 27, 1974 in Düsseldorf ), was an Art Informel artist .

From 1924 to 1927 he studied at the State School for Art and Crafts in Mainz and in 1929/30 in evening classes at the Städel School in Frankfurt am Main . During the Nazi era , he was banned from exhibiting. His evacuation to Murnau in 1942 led to a closer acquaintance with Gabriele Münter and an examination of the work of Wassily Kandinsky . From 1946 he was associated with the artist group Der Rote Reiter in Munich. From 1949 he worked under the name Fathwinter (compilation of the first letters of the first name). From 1955 he lived and worked in Düsseldorf. Fathwinter was a member of the German Association of Artists , in whose exhibitions he took part from 1954.
