The Faulbach is an 8.6 km long stream in the Spessart , which flows into the Main at Faulbach in the Miltenberg district in Bavaria from the right and northeast .
Surname
The name Faulbach is derived from the adjectival determinant vûl , which means stinking, lazy , and the noun Bach . The stream gave the Faulbach community its name.

The Faulbach rises in the Spessart north of Altenbuch . It reaches Ober-Altenbuch in the south-east, takes its largest inflow there from the Kleiner Grund in the west and flows through the subsequent Unter-Altenbuch in the east-south-east. Behind the village he passes the Neumühle and, north of the Hohe Berg , is already on Faulbacher parish ground , on an increasingly southern course. At the beginning of Faulbach-Breitenbrunn, it leaves its narrow, wooded valley and enters a wide corridor basin, in the middle of which the flat Grohberg rises, which it flows around in the east. Then he turns to the southwest, enters the contour of the village of Faulbach in a notch of wood and grassland . In the area of the bypass road , the bed of the Faulbach was greatly changed. After crossing under the state road 2315 accompanying the Main on the right and also the Miltenberg West – Wertheim railway line , it opens from the right into the lock exit of the Faulbach barrage , which is now forming a north loop here.

The origin of the Faulbach brook about 1.2 km northwest of the district road fork in Ober-Altenbuch under a chapel at the left foot of the slope. At this point two upper valleys converge, from the north the Frickengrund , from the northwest the longer Kreuzsteinrund , through which the district road 35 enters the valley, which then follows it to Breitenbrunn.
- Inflow through the Kreuzsteingrund , the right Obertal, apparently mostly waterless.
- Inflow through the Frickengrund , the left Obertal with unstable watercourse, which continues about 1.3 further uphill to about 320 m above sea level. NN at Frickenbrunnen arises.
- Beech fountain, source on the left bank on a dirt road bridge in the area of a former pond.
- Stream through the Kleine Grund , from the left at the fork in the district road in Ober-Altenbuch to less than 240 m above sea level. NN , approx. 2.5 km. The inconsistent brook arises near a forest cross on the district road 26 in the western Mühlgut at about 370 m above sea level. NN , which comes from Wildensee through the forest valley follows the stream.

- Inflow through the Bangertsgrund , from the left in the eastern Unter-Altenbuch. Between the upper valley floor and the Eichhöhe ( 455 m above sea level ) on the left above it rises just below the upper shoulder of the valley slope, the Graefenstein fountain . at around 390 m above sea level NN
- Schrögersgraben , from the left after the brook crossing on already Faulbacher district at less than 190 m above sea level. NN , approx. 0.5 km. Rises from a slope spring at about 270 m above sea level. NN under the narrow saddle to the valley of the Kropfbach , which reaches the Main via the Haslochbach . Is mostly municipal boundary.
- Exit of the canal to the mill on the forest path, to the left at the entrance to Faulbach-Breitenbrunn to about 175 m above sea level. NN , approx. 0.4 km. Return to the mill.
- Exit of the canal to the mill at the end of Mühlenstraße, to the right at the exit from Breitenbrunn, approx. 0.6 km. Return at the mill to just under 160 m above sea level. NN .
- Schergersgraben , from the left east of the flat Grohberg ( 237 m above sea level ) to about 155 m above sea level. NN , approx. 0.4 km. Arises at about 174 m above sea level. NN , mostly accompanied by the field. After this mouth, the Faulbach turns slowly to the southwest.
- Forest ditch, from the left close to a field cross on a road ditch at about 150 m above sea level. NN .
- Erlengraben , from the left shortly afterwards to below 148 m above sea level. NN .
The mouth of the Faulbach from the right and northeast in Faulbach between Kirchgasse and Ankergasse into the lower lock exit of the Faulbach barrage of the Main at 129 m above sea level. NN .
