Faust des Nordwestens is the second album by the Frankfurt rapper Azad . It was also the artist's last album that was released on April 28, 2003 on the 3P label before he founded his own label Bozz-Music. He produced most of the tracks on the album himself, but unlike the previous album, mastering took place in Paris.

Musical style

The album contains both heavy battle rap and borrowings from R&B . Musically, Azad was able to stay true to his provocative rhyme style and improve on flow and beat. The individual tracks are more complex than on his previous album Leben and range from hard battle rap to more gentle tracks, like the song Mein Licht, which is dedicated to his daughter. In addition to the quieter songs that concern his daughter, the beef with Samy Deluxe, as well as MC René, are mentioned on the remaining tracks. Various features from his Frankfurt colleagues, as well as the collaboration with Kool Savas, round off the whole thing.

The collaboration with Kool Savas also provided a foretaste of the joint album One .

Meaning of the lyrics

Intro / Prelude Drama / Prelude? - are instrumental pieces. Intro and Prelude? were written by Azad. Prelude - comes from Chan.

A - The song is a typical battle rap. It is the only single release from the album.

# 1 - is a song performed with Kool Savas. The first two verses are raped alternately. The chorus and the third verse are sung together. In terms of content, the song is another battle track. The title refers to the joint album, which was to appear two years later.

Bang - contains a feature of J-Luv. The song contains borrowings from the soul , especially in the chorus, which is sung by J-Luv.

Drama - is the first quiet song on the record. The song is very personal and is about Azad's life. The chorus is sung in English by British singer Linda Carriere.

Honor & Strength - contains a feature from Sako. Sako is a member of the French rap duo Chiens de Paille. Azad starts the stanzas in German and from the middle Sako continues rapping in French. The two rappers also take turns in the chorus.

MC U Reen - is a diss track against MC Rene . Already on his first album Azad dissed him in the song Gegen den Strom . This same song is played backwards by MC U Reen towards the end .

Faust of the Northwest - the title track of the album is another fast battle track.

? - is about hip-hop culture and Azad's self-image. In the second stanza, Azad declares the beef over with Samy Deluxe . The beat is rather slow and catchy.

Pain / Survival - In this song Azad tells of the difficulties in coping with life and how family and faith make it easier to go your own way.

My light - is dedicated to his daughter Lea. It's a declaration of love to her. The song includes a sample from Notorious BIG

Calm Before the Storm - contains a feature from the rap group Truth, which includes Azad, Jeyz , Sezai, Lunafrow, and Chaker. Each member of the group raps a part of the song. Azad later signed every member of the group on his Bozz Music label .

Fuck you - is the end of the album and another battle track. In contrast to the other tracks, it contains a number of swear words. The song is directed against "wrong" fans and MCs .

The cover is held in various brown, beige and gold colors. In the background you can see the outlines of a collapsing building, in the middle of the picture is a person who is almost completely covered by a cloak and who is holding a fist towards the viewer. Below is the title of the album, as well as a text in gold letters on the right and left (from top to bottom). The script is intended to reproduce Asian characters, which, however, have no deeper meaning. Azad's logo is an almost invisible light shade in the middle of the cover and extends in its dimensions to the gold text on the side.
