Fay Grim is a 2006 American film directed by Hal Hartley . The film is the sequel to Hartley's 1997 Henry Fool . Fay Grim premiered on September 11, 2006 at the Toronto Film Festival . It then ran in the competition of the Sundance Film Festival and in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival 2007 .

Seven years ago, Henry Fool accidentally killed a neighbor and went into hiding. His brother-in-law Simon Grim was sentenced to 10 years in prison for helping to escape. In his cell, he comes to the conclusion that there is sensitive information in Henry's missing diary. Henry's wife Fay Grim is now living in Queens with their 14-year-old son. One day she is informed by CIA agents that her husband died in a hotel fire in Sweden shortly after he went into hiding. The agents blackmail Fay into retrieving the diaries that are in the possession of the French government.
