The feather asparagus ( Asparagus setaceus ) is a species of the genus Asparagus ( Asparagus ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
features
Spring asparagus is an evergreen, perennial , herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 15 to 60 centimeters. The plant forms a rhizome . The dummy leaves are thread-shaped and measure 4 to 5 × 0.1 to 0.2 millimeters. 6 to 13 each are arranged at the nodes. The leaf spur is short. Only those on the main shoot can sting. The flowers are individually at the branch ends. The flower stalks are about 1 millimeter long.
The flowering period extends from September to October.
Occurrence
Spring asparagus is native to the Eastern Cape Province, Natal, Transvaal and tropical East Africa in shady (dune) forests. The species has meanwhile become naturalized in numerous countries.

Spring asparagus is widely used as an ornamental plant. The species has been in culture since 1876 at the latest.
