Fefe (proper spelling: FEFE ) is a song of the American rapper 6ix9ine from the year 2018, which he combined with that of Trinidad and Tobago coming singer and rapper Nicki Minaj and the Canadian music producer Murda Beatz recorded. The second single from his debut album Dummy Boy was produced by the latter together with Cubeatz and written by all artists and producers together with TrifeDrew . Minaj added the song to the tracklist of her fourth studio album Queen on selected streaming platforms .

Music and lyrics

In Fefe is a song of the genre trap . Spherical synthesizers underlay a beat of 808 - bass drums , hi-hats , claps and snares . The song is divided into four stanzas and a bridge, each interrupted by the chorus. 6ix9ine takes over the first and second verses, the bridge and most of the hooks, where he sings his parts to some extent. His voice is alienated with a phaser . Nicki Minaj raps the third and fourth verses and sings half of the fourth and the entire last chorus. Both musicians take over Adlibs in each other's parts. In terms of content, the song is mainly about the sexual life of the performers, but in the second stanza there are also extensive mentions of 6ix9ine's willingness to use violence, which deals with the use of firearms .

Music video

The video clip for Fefe , which was directed by TrifeDrew and William Asher , is particularly striking because of its bright colors and its artificiality. He shows 6ix9ine, Nicki Minaj and Murda Beatz in a building, the interior of which consists of various, oversized sweets and mushrooms . Among other things, the musicians play a gossip game on an ice cream van, sit together in a ball pool filled with balloons , eat ice cream or fiddle with water pistols , whereby the interactions between the two rappers are often peppered with sexual innuendos. 6ix9ine also contributes in several settings a little dog in the arm . There are also some scantily clad women who, together with 6ix9ine, perform suggestive gestures.

criticism

Fefe received mixed reviews. One was surprised that 6ix9ine renounced its trademark, loud and aggressive rap in favor of a calm and sometimes melodic performance. The chorus in particular was described as catchy, and the good production was also highlighted. In return, however, it was noted that neither the main artist nor Nicki Minaj had anything new or exciting to say and would stick to well-known phrases. It was agreed that the title should not reinvent the wheel and use existing models, but the perception of its quality fluctuated widely and ranged from "refreshing and original" to " [having] the personality of a wet duvet ". Further criticism was not about the song itself, but about Minaj's decision to collaborate with 6ix9ine, who had been exposed to several conflicts with the law, including his presence during sexual recordings of a 13-year-old . In connection with the latter case, the music video was also criticized, which evokes unpleasant associations due to its childlike visual aesthetics.

success

Fefe was a great commercial success in several countries. It did particularly well in the USA . It was awarded eight times platinum and reached number 3 on the charts. It could occupy the same position in Canada and New Zealand . It also made it into the top ten in Sweden , Finland , Australia and Switzerland . In the latter country it climbed to 10th place; in Germany and Austria the success was enough for positions 16 and 14.
