6ix9ine (2018)

6ix9ine (pronounced: six-nine ), occasionally Tekashi69 , real name Daniel Hernandez (born May 8, 1996 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American rapper .

biography

Daniel Hernandez was born in Bushwick , Brooklyn to a Mexican mother and a Puerto Rican father. He never met his father, but grew up with his mother and stepfather. In the 8th grade he had to leave school. When he was 13 years old, his stepfather was murdered. He started working at a young age, but also sold marijuana and heroin to support his mother.

His rap career began in 2014 when he released various tracks and videos on FCK THEM, a Slovak independent label . He used excerpts from anime for his videos . His eye-catching appearance with rainbow-colored hair and grillz as well as eye-catching face tattoos quickly made him a well-known internet meme . He describes his crew as Scumgang, whereby the acronym Scum stands for “Society Can't Understand Me” (“Society can't understand me”).

After his first successes, mainly through Soundcloud , he became known to the general public in October 2017 through his debut single GUMMO . The song rose to number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and went platinum. At the end of 2017, the second single Kooda followed . In 2018 he released the song Keke with Fetty Wap and A Boogie wit da Hoodie . FEFE was published in July 2018 together with Nicki Minaj and Murda Beatz . His second album Dummy Boy was released by his management on November 27, 2018. It was supposed to be published on November 23, 2018, but Daniel Hernandez was in custody at that time. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200.

He has two children with two wives.

Criminal proceedings

In October 2015, he pleaded guilty to sexual acts against a 13-year-old woman and was sentenced to two years probation. He had previously published a video of the act on Instagram . The admission of guilt was part of a deal with prosecutors to avoid jail time. In an interview in November 2017, however, he denied some of the allegations and alleged, among other things, that he was under 18 at the time of the crime and did not know that it was a minor. Part of the deal, however, was that he took a General Educational Development Test , which he failed. It was also announced that he has been arrested twice since then, once for allegedly strangling a 16-year-old and a second time for attacking a police officer. Since he had thus committed a criminal offense during his probation, another trial took place in October 2018, in which he was sentenced to four years probation.

On November 18, 2018, Hernandez was arrested along with some members of his crew on charges of illegal possession of weapons and involvement in an armed robbery. The judge denied a requested bail of $ 2 million combined with house arrest for Hernandez.

He faced more than 47 years in prison. On December 18, 2019, he was sentenced to only two years in prison as part of a plea bargaining . 13 months of pre-trial detention were counted towards this. He testified extensively about other gang members and, among other things, confessed to domestic violence over a period of 7 years. The mother of one of his children stated in an article that she had suffered 7 years of domestic violence and rape by 6ix9ine. After 20 months in prison, he was released from prison for his asthma in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States . He is allowed to spend the remaining four months of his detention in house arrest with a GPS tracker . His house arrest ended on August 1, 2020.

Music genre

6ix9ine combines in his music elements of the old-school rape and the Crunks with modern elements of the traps and the cloud rape and the Lo-Fis .
