history

The building, which was initially called the clubhouse, was planned by Privy Councilor Martin Duller and built in 1913. It is located at Leuschnerstrasse 47 in Ludwigshafen. The corporate headquarters, the former Friedrich-Engelhorn-Hochhaus , and the Friedenskirche are nearby . It has had its current name since 1936. In 1944 it was destroyed to the ground by bombing and only rebuilt in 1956. The after-work house has a floor space of 13,000 m² and also includes a canteen for BASF employees.

The after-work house has been modernized several times; a renovation took place since February 2010; it reopened in November 2011.

Along with the Pfalzbau and the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle, it is one of the three major local event centers.

Cultural event

The approximately 60 events annually are attended by around 60,000 people; the average occupancy is between 80 and 90 percent. The house gets by without public subsidies.

Well-known artists appeared, such as Richard Strauss with an orchestra in 1929 and Yehudi Menuhin , Carl Orff , Sergiu Celibidache and Anne-Sophie Mutter, and in 2005 Ornette Coleman .
