Field hockey Bundesliga 2008/09 (men)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the 2008/09 season , the game system introduced in the previous season was modified. Further play-off games were played in the championship and hope rounds. Furthermore, the seven-meter shooting in the event of a tie was replaced by a penalty shoot-out.

Game system

In the preliminary round (league phase) the 12 teams played in a simple round each against each other without a second leg. The teams then played the quarter-finals in play-off games (best of three) in places one to eight. The winners of the play-offs played further play-offs in the championship round, as did the losers in the hope round. The two winners of the play-offs of the championship round contested the final of the German championship. The losers in the play-offs of the championship round played a decider to get into the game for third place in the German championship, which entitles them to participate in the Euro Hockey League . The opponent in the game for 3rd place was determined in the hope round. The winners of the two play-offs of the round of hope also played a playoff, the winner played for third place. The teams in places eight to twelve of the league phase determined the two relegated teams in a relegation round.
